Giovanna Taormina, Co-Founder, Executive Director
Giovanna Taormina is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of One Circle Foundation. She provides national training, curricula, consultation, and technical assistance related to gender responsive services to non-profit agencies, government, state supported programs, institutions, and systems that work with adolescents and has served as a national consultant to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. With co-founder, Beth Hossfeld, LMFT, Giovanna co-developed the Girls Circle, The Council for Boys and Young Men, and Women’s Circle models - comprehensive, gender-specific models for youth and women to address the risk factors and needs in a format that is conducive to building on strengths and fostering resiliency. With extensive experience in the design, development, and implementation of program services, she is recognized for her work in both the public and private sectors. Giovanna has co-developed several curricula for enhancing protective factors in the lives of youth and women focusing on themes related to bullying, competition, friendships, alcohol, tobacco and drug decision-making, sexuality, goal setting, body image, women’s health and wellness, aggression, dating violence, mother/daughter relationships, HIV prevention, and more. The curricula is utilized internationally and applied to programs in schools, mental health, juvenile probation, pregnancy prevention, substance abuse prevention, health education, economic literacy, gang-prevention, outdoor adventure, boys and girls clubs, and peer leadership. In 2004, Giovanna was selected to be a member of the OJJDP Girls Study Group to represent practitioners in the field of girls’ programs by a group of federally appointed academic and research experts committed to providing scientifically sound programs for girls. Since 1997, One Circle Foundation has provided nationwide trainings, in-service trainings, and peer-leadership trainings with participants from all over the United States and Canada. Beth Hossfeld, LMFT, Co-Founder, Consultant
Beth Hossfeld, LMFT is Co-Founder of One Circle Foundation. She is a national leader on gender-responsive group programs for youth, a trainer and co-developer of Girls Circle Facilitator Training and The Council for Boys and Young Men Facilitator Training and co-author of the training manuals. She has authored and edited many of the Girls Circle and Council Facilitator Activity guides including the Mother-Daughter Circle: Heart of the Matter, and many articles, and is a contributing author to the Handbook on Prevention and Intervention Programs for Adolescent Girls, Ed. LeCroy, C., published by J. Wiley and Sons, 2007 and author, Rites of Passages for Girls, published in the peer-reviewed online journal Springer Publications. She serves as Research Coordinator for both Girls Circle and The Council collaborative studies with partnering organizations. Beth is a Certified Solution Team® Trainer, an effective anti-bullying approach for schools and youth settings. Beth served as Clinical and Training Director of an eighteen site school-based mental health and substance abuse prevention and early intervention program, as well as an outpatient adolescent treatment program at Bay Area Community Resources where she provided clinical supervision and training to mental health interns and substance abuse counselors. She is a licensed marriage, family and child therapist and maintains a part time practice in Mill Valley, CA, with an emphasis on girls, teens, and their families. Kiku Johnson, Associate Director
Kiku has been invested in youth work since 1989 ranging from residential, treatment, prevention, out of school time, community-based, and youth development including educational non-profit organizations in California, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, and West Virginia. Twenty years were initially girl focused work with gender specific programing including outdoor and adventure-based education, science-technology-engineering-math (STEM), college and career preparation and internship placement, rites of passage, and social emotional learning (SEL). Kiku served previously as the Girls Leadership National Program Director centering on SEL and educational theater curriculum and educator training. Kiku has also been a residential counselor with pregnant and parenting teen girls and worked with organizations including 4-H and Girls Incorporated. Kiku’s gender-transcended approach to working with youth and all individuals is culturally informed, responsive, and human centered. As a Georgetown University Center for Juvenile Justice Reform Fellow, Kiku has focused work developing a national Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) training. Kiku hails from a visual arts background engaging art mediums including photography, drawing, stained glass and mosaics with youth. Victoria Mahand, MSW, National Training Specialist
Victoria is the national lead Girls Circle trainer, representing the organization in the U.S., Canada and beyond. She contributes to the design and enhancement of our trainings and curricula. Victoria is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Jersey and holds a master’s degree in social work. Previously she was a Program Director for the Center for Family Services where she facilitated and supervised the Girls Circle program in addition to supervising the implementation of modalities including Structural Family Therapy, Multi-Systemic Therapy, and sex offender treatment. She also worked with the New Jersey Superior Court, probation, and schools to implement prevention and intervention services for children and their families. Victoria offers a dynamic, energetic, and engaging presence to our trainings and work at One Circle Foundation. Pat Greenwell, Customer Relations, Office Administrator
Pat collaborates with agencies and organizations that would like to provide Girls Circle or The Council Facilitator Trainings to their staff and/or community. Pat’s background includes working in the public schools, clinical residential settings, as well as media production. Pat has a long history with One Circle Foundation dating back to the 1990’s when her two daughters were in “Young Women In Spirit,” a Girls Circle group facilitated by Executive Director, Giovanna Taormina. Vanessa Brook Caveney, Communications and Design Director
Vanessa is responsible for overseeing the design strategy for One Circle Foundation's digital and print work including curricula, presentations, and email marketing. She has over 18 years of experience working with girl and women-focused non profits in the San Francisco Bay Area. Vanessa's background is in design and web development and she has employed both since the inception of the organization as the daughter of Executive Director, Giovanna Taormina. Vanessa knows first-hand the power and impact of circle models, having participated in them from age 13, and can attest to their effectiveness in fostering belonging, empathy, and self-worth. Moorea Dickason, Contractor, Consultant
In 2016, after eight years of employment at OCF as an Office Administrator, Marketing Manager, Accounts Payable and Receivable Administrator, Girls Circle Trainer, and Account Manager, Moorea Dickason moved on to focus full time on her music career. Moorea is a full time Professional Singer, Private Singing Teacher, Studio Engineer and Content Creator. She continues to work with OCF to support the organizational mission and particularly the health of attendance at open public trainings. Her first experience with One Circle was as a high school aged participant in a Girls Circle with Giovanna Taormina, the ED of OCF as her facilitator. Moorea has since become a certified Girls Circle and The Council for Boys & Young Men Facilitator, has facilitated multiple Girls Circle groups, has been a Girls Circle Trainer, built and supported many programs at OCF and continues to spend time connected to the organization, it's staff and mission. www.MooreaDickason.com.
